It would be three stories about three brothers, each of them running from love and female entanglements but all going to end up getting it anyway. I love it when heroes don't think they need a woman or start a story with some very wrong notions about what sort of woman they want. I hadn't even opened this story in about 3 years probably, but when I skimmed through those first few opening pages it was like - YES! Love this hero. He's the baby brother and although I love him to pieces, the poor guy is going to get what's coming to him. The perfect opening hook just came to me and off I went. The first sentence to me just nailed the hero for me. Sometimes that's all I need to really get me going, a sentence or two that I just KNOW the character would be thinking if I was really in their head - other than "get out - it's crowded enough already in here!"
Of course, THIS is not the story I should be working on, so it's going back to the back burner for now - but I am excited to see if it gets picked for a critique tomorrow.
What did everyone else send in? What really makes a great first page for you?
